As discussed above, if you are looking for a backpack that gives you a lot of space, easy to carry and an easy to carry a backpack, then without even giving a second thought, Osprey Farpoint 40 is one of the best options that you have now. This backpack has already comforted thousands of users so far in their camping and hiking endeavors. Let’s look at the features that it has to offer:

Size Options

Osprey Farpoint 40 is an excellent hiking and camping backpack that comes in various sizes from small to medium and a medium to large variation. So, being a guy of a height of 5’9”, we decided to opt for the medium-large variation. This means there is more about your torso size. The taller you are, you might want to go for the medium/large. Our recommendation is that if you’re about 5’5” height or maybe a bit shorter, you should get the small-medium size.

Compactness

We’ve had 10 months of actual travel with this particular travel bag. We can tell you about our experience as to how well it served us. We really love the fact that it’s very compact. Usually, the overhead compartments of a lot of various airlines are really small and this backpack fits very well there.

Material

Osprey Farpoint 40 offers a lot of comfort because of the breathability. This backpack features a mesh material on the back of the backpack and actually surrounding the entire frame of the backpack. The frame of the backpack is a fit aluminum frame that really gives a lot of support and helps disperse the weight. Moreover, it provides support through the bag & gives you a lot of comfort by having this on your back.

Shoulder Straps

One thing that’s really nice about this backpack as well are the straps. It is slightly padded to give you more comfort and more support on your shoulders. It has some little tabs to help you tighten and to find the right fit on your shoulders depending on the size of your shoulders. So, you can set the backpack a little bit higher or lower just to give it that nice snug fit.

Hip Belt

This backpack has a really cool padded hip belt that covered in the same mesh material as the entire back of the back pipe. This hip belt allows to add more comfort, stability and transfer some of the weight off your shoulders onto your waist.

Chest Strap

Another neat feature of Osprey Farpoint 40 is the chest strap. You can put on your chest and tie in to give you more support as you need it.

Carry Handles

In terms of versatility, you also have a bunch of carrying options such as this top handle and also a handle on the side. These handles are pretty durable, pretty tough and these feel very secure on the bag. This means that you don’t actually have to always carry on your back. You can hold the backpack in a briefcase style or hold it right on top as well. So, you have various options on how you want to actually carry your backpack and take out a covering to hide your straps and the hip hatch. In these ways, it is kind of converted into a strapless bag that is actually very helpful if you want to check in your bag.

The straps don’t actually don’t dangle so they don’t get caught in something. That’s really very helpful. Another cool feature of the bag’s strap is that you can attach to the bag itself to some designated points. It will transform your backpack into now a shoulder bag. We hope you got an idea that you have a lot of options of how you want to actually carry your bag depending on what current situation you’re in.

Front Straps

On the front of the backpack, you have these straps that you can use to secure your backpack. This particular backpack from Osprey is front-top-loading as opposed to some other backpacks that we researched. If you have to take out any item from the bag, you know you can easily open it up to pull your stuff out and put it right back in.

Pockets

There are two mesh pockets. We found it particularly helpful for carrying water bottles or other kinds of beverages. However, there is no zipper of any kind here, so it is not smart to put any valuables or any loose items there. Also, there is a pocket that we found really helpful for putting in loose changes and also pens.

Storage

One of the other main compartments or the bag itself is kind of a laptop pouch or, maybe a technology storage area of the bag. You can easily fit a 15-inch laptop and there is even a velcro strap to secure that. There’s a pouch where you can put in various accessories such as a mouse, wires, batteries, hard disks etc. It is padded which ensures of keeping the electrical equipment in a good shape. On top of that, you’ve just got the extra storage that you can put right on top.

Now let’s talk about the main storage compartment of the bag itself. You will get a lot of space and you will have these security straps that you can put over your clothes as you pack to provide extra support and stability for your items. On the front side of the bag, you have a nice mesh compartment with a nice mesh liner. It has travel cues where you can put underwear, socks etc. The only major problem that we really had was with a laptop compartment. When the bag gets really fully packed, the laptop is really snug in there and you may feel a little bit uncomfortable thinking about the safety of my laptop in terms of defending perhaps. What you can do is just take a laptop, put in two sleeves and slide it in the main compartment with the rest of your clothes.

To Sum Up

Considering these features, now you know nothing really too negative for this particular bag but other than that it’s a very solid and worthy investment. As far as the product upgrade is concerned, there’s a newer version of the Osprey Farpoint 40 liter bag out there. The new version is pretty much the same as this one. This is definitely a worthy investment and is too awesome in terms of price as this costs about $140.

In terms of real-life experiences, we actually had to hike with this backpack for 14 miles strap on our back with about 40 pounds worth of clothes and other things in it.
