How To Use A Laser Bore Sighter – A Proper Guide For You!

How To Use A Laser Bore Sighter – A Proper Guide For You!

It is difficult to hit a target in a single shot as the bullets in a riffle follow a parabolic path, which is a curved path due to the gravitational pull. This property of the bullet makes it difficult for the shooters to hit the target at one go, especially for the new shooters. For shooters to hit the target precisely, they need to understand the range of the bullet at different angles, understand how to use a laser bore sighter, and understanding these needs years of experience, which can be difficult for any beginners. To get good at hitting targets and aiming at a fixed point, a shooter needs to practice a lot and this could waste a lot of bullets.

Usually, many shooters use a technique called sighting-in. Sighting-in is a method that is used to adjust the rifle to aim at the target from a specific distance. It is an easier process, just make the center of the barrel parallel to the optic of the gun which is mounted. Try to keep the movements steady when you rest the rifle on a fixed platform. Make sure the rifle is unloaded before you sight-in. The rifle needs adjustment which can take a long time to master, and it needs to be adjusted every time you use the rifle. This sighting process also needs the practice to be precise with the target, which can also waste bullets. To avoid any waste of bullets, you can use laser bore sights.

What is A Laser Bore Sighter?

laser bore sighter

Laser bore sights is a sighting technique that is being used to hit the target precisely. However, using a laser for bore sighting is advantageous in many ways.

Types of Laser Bore

In–Chamber

In Chamber laser bore sighter

The laser bore light is directly put in your gun’s chamber hence the laser bore sights must be gun specific meaning it must have the same size and specifications similar to that of the cartridge in your gun.  They are also easy to operate. All you need to do is to turn on the laser bore sight and put it in the chamber of the gun you are using. Moreover, the screws that come with the laser ensure that the laser bore sight is fixed and is placed in the center.

universal chamber laser bore sighter

Universal Chamber

It is compatible with any gun since it doesn’t have a spring-loaded retreat. It has a green laser diode and is attached to the firearm’s cask by the magnetic body. Since universal laser bore-sights are attached by a magnet, the precision is not as accurate as it should be. However, they are more affordable and safer than in-chamber laser-bore sights.

How To Use A Laser Bore Sighter

To help you further, here is a step-by-step guide of how to use a laser bore sighter:

using laser bore sighter

  • If you are new to using firearms, kindly ensure your safety alongside the safety of the surroundings. Check properly if there are living beings near your target so that you do not cause any harm. Moreover, cross check that there is no bullet since many forget to remove the bullet. Kindly keep the safety measures in mind as it can have a hazardous effect.
  • The laser bore sighter comes with different adapters to match the caliber of the gun you are using. Choose a suitable adapter that meets your needs and use the corresponding screw to put it into the rear end of the adapter. Make sure you secure the screw tightly. After the placement of the screw take the adapter and place it on the end of the bore sighter. The adapter will be fixed at the rear and adjust the calibration according to the rifle that you are using. The adapter will touch the chamber in two places. The rear part of the adapter will make contact with the inner part of the barrel, and front end and this part touch the end of the firearm’s muzzle. After doing all this, you can place the bore sighter in the firearm.

Once You Are Done With Sighter Placement

  • After the laser bore sighter is placed, you need to determine the range, which is the distance between the place you are standing to the point of target. Read the manual instructions properly and follow the instructions properly depending on the range if the rifle.
  • It is of utmost importance to ensure that the rifle is placed on a steady platform while sighting the gun. From a professional point of view for beginners, we advise using a vise that will hold the rifle in place. If you feel you do not need to use a vise to keep the gun steady you can use anything you feel comfortable, be it sandbags or other forms of an unwavering pedestal. Try to avoid using hand or unstable platform as support. Although the vise is the best and a hassle-free option, it can be expensive for some of you so as an alternative you can use any other firm platform as support.
  • After placing the rifle in an unwavering platform and inserting the laser bore sight in the barrel, it is time to align your vision with that of the object. It simply means pointing your gun so that it hits the desired target. The point at which you hit the target is illuminated when hitting with a laser bore sight. If your aim is bad, you can keep trying to adjust the vision of the target until you hit the targeted point.
  • Once you made necessary adjustments and is ready to hit the target with the bullet, make sure to remove the laser bore sighter.

Key Points To Remember

  • When using a laser bore sighter kindly ensure that your gun is not loaded.
  • Since red light can be difficult to be seen in daylight, use a different light.
  • Use targets of bright neon color so that you can see the target properly.
  • Rifles retreat when fired so make sure you do not stand behind the rifle rather stand beside it while shooting.
  • Make sure to choose a safe distance as a range which can be in between 15 to 25 yards. Choosing an unrealistic range can be difficult to attain for new shooters and can be extremely demotivating at the same time.

All the laser bore sights are similar the only thing that differs is the model that is being used. The newer version of the laser bore sights have improved precision and are green in color which makes it easier to see. The main difference in laser bore sights is in the model and type of the firearm that you use. Previously the laser bore sights could be adjusted to a limited number of dimensions making it difficult to use in different types of firearms. Lately, companies offer different adapters so that a single laser bore sight can be used in different firearms, increasing versatility. Many lasers bore sight fit in almost all muzzles and hence, are called universal and can be used with almost all calibers.

How To Choose The Suitable Laser Bore Sight?

Before buying a laser bore sight research about different reputed brands. Read about the things that are best for the purpose you are buying it, and lastly see the reviews and buy it from a trusted store or an e-commerce website like Amazon. It is important that you buy the laser bore sight from a reputed brand to get precise calibration and to align the target and your vision with the laser bore sight perfectly in the center.

Buying from a new brand can turn out to be useless for you if the laser bore sight has a precision issue. If you are a person who uses big rifles and does not change firearms frequently, in-chamber laser bore sight will be perfect for you. It is because in-chamber laser bore sight is safer to use since they are fixed inside the chamber. If you prefer to use a variety of firearms, universal chamber laser bore sight will be best for you since it offers adjustments to fit a versatile range of guns. If you plan to use the gun in daylight a green colored laser light is suitable for u otherwise red work just fine. Battery life is crucial if you tend to use it for a long time otherwise it is not a factor that is to be considered.

Final Words

With the emergence of technology, laser bore sighters brought about a revolutionary change in the industry of firearms and has been an indispensable tool for the beginners saving a considerate amount of money on ammunition and cartridges. Moreover, it is a great tool to practice shooting at specific targets without causing harm to the surroundings thus, laser bore sights are extremely safe and user-friendly.

How To Use A Rangefinder Scope

The method of finding the range in a field is to estimate the range using a principle that states, “the rate at which an object appears larger or smaller depend on its distance”.

This implies that a rough estimate of distance can be made with the size for an object on the field. To understand how to use a rangefinder scope, you need to understand the basics components of a rangefinder first and once you are clear about those, you will be clear about the whole process.

Burris 200433-FF Fullfield TAC30 1-4 x 24 with Fastfire III Scope (Black)
  • The Fullfield TAC30 Riflescopes Series offers a second-to-none close quarter battle (CQB) reticle for competitive shooters and law enforcement and military operators.
  • The illuminated center dot and large, bright circle allow for instant target engagement at close distances. Holdover dots provide trajectory compensation out to 600 yards.
  • 1x magnification allows for close-in, both-eyes-open shooting. 4x magnification allows engagement of mid-distance targets.
  • The ultra-bright, illuminated reticles have a 10-position dimmer you can adjust for all lighting conditions.
  • Superb optical glass is multi-coated for maximum low-light and anti-glare performance. It's fully compatible with existing night-vision technology.

Lens

Lenses are the most important components of a riflescope. There are 3 kinds of lenses; objective, erector and ocular. The position of a lens is in a tube away from the user. This main lens allows the light to what is known as the erector lens. The image is flipped here and is sent to the magnifying lens. Obviously, the magnifying lens magnifies the image. This is where the actual image is formed and it travels to the ocular lens near the user’s eyes. The objective lens is housed by the objective bell, the erector, and magnifying lenses. The ocular lens is present in the eyepiece of the scope.

Magnification

Magnification indicates the largeness of a field that appears from the scope as compared to the eyes. Some Scopes come with fixed power i.e, the magnification of the scope isn’t adjustable. For instance, a fixed 4×50 power indicates a rifle scope having a field of view 4 times of a normal set of eyes and it houses a 40 mm objective lens. The power can be variable as well. Variable powers are designated by a hyphen as in 4-8×50 which indicates a scope with magnification that ranges from 4 to 8 and a 50 mm objective lens. The price of a rangefinder generally depends on the magnification power of the scope.

Reticle

The reticles come in a crosshair pattern is wired to a glass plate. There are many kinds of reticles available like a duplex, crosshair, mil-dot, SPRs, BDC etc. These have their own set of features that support different types of ammunition. The reticle of scope can be placed in front of the back of the magnifying lens. For a scope with variable power, size of crosshair changes while zooming so, the reticle is placed at the front. This will keep the target and object in the scope the same despite the level of magnification. When the reticle is present at the back of the magnifying lens, the crosshair won’t magnify with the object as the magnification is changed.

Bullet Drop Compensator (BDC)

BDC stands for Bullet Drop Compensator. It is the most common reticle in a rangefinding scope so, we’re going to focus on this. It is preferred by many people as well. Normally, a BDC reticle is set up with a certain number of horizontal hash marks present on verticle lines, as opposed to just simple cross-hairs. These marks tell you about different distance. When you zero in the scope, you can adjust the landing position of your bullets by increasing to the proper hash mark at the desired distance. On the other hand, they also compensate for wind at certain distances. You need to calculate the distance and it depends on the scope’s power. Most BDC reticles are tested at a certain condition with certain ammunition. Most of them can scope at a 300-yard range.

A rangefinding scope can take quite a bit of learning. There are some basic calculations involved too. Here we’re going to see these in detail.

Distance Calculation

The formula to calculate the distance is WERM, i.e. Width = Range x (MOA or Mil). The MOA constant is 100 whereas the MIL constant is 27.8.

If you have a deer chest of 20 inches that takes 4 mil dots on reticle then Width = (20/4 x 27.8) yards is the distance.

Knowing this distance, you can aim in the correct way and get a more accurate shot at your target. For even more precision, there are windage charts too. These charts determine your wind if you don’t have a device to read the wind. You should also remember how mirage is related to wind speed. You should be able to judge the wind’s direction as well as the direction of the travel.

Tips To Get The Right Rangefinder Scope

There are some things that you should consider before buying the right rangefinder scope. They’re given below:

  • See the ease of installation. Although a rangefinder may tick all boxes, installation can be a deal breaker. Some rangefinder scopes are harder to mount than others. Be careful of this.
  • The price of the item plays probably the greatest role in determining the purchase. You should get the one which first, fits your budget and second, has all the things that you require.
  • Another thing to consider is that you shouldn’t fall for a scope which looks good. Get the one which has the best build quality and materials. Do check for any warranty that you might get.
  • Beware of the false distance claims. If a manufacturer has labeled a rangefinder as 1500 yard, chances are it exhibits that property only under good conditions.

Pros & Cons of A Rangefinding Scope

As with everything, rangefinder scopes also have their share of pros as well as cons. The pros are quite obvious, you can estimate distance which is really hard. Rangefinder scopes can also compensate for bullet drop or wind.

There are quite a few cons as well. To estimate bullet drop, you need exact data on condition, magnification, load, barrel and even the ammunition. You need to know your guns properly. Also, the calculation itself can be tiresome. Something as trivial as changing the magnification slightly can also cause a total miss.

Final Notes

To conclude, rangefinder scopes are a must have item if you want to aim correctly. There are a lot of rangefinders available in the market and they all come with their own set of features. You need to follow some important tips to find the right rangefinding scopes. These scopes are fairly easier to use but they do require quite a bit of calculation for more precision. The calculation is pretty simple, however. The one con is that even with a slight change in magnification, the calculations have to be redone. This can be very much of a pain. Despite all this, a rangefinder scope will do the work it’s intended to do without much hassle. The rangefinders come at a wide variety of price ranges with many features to choose from. You can definitely give them a shot and you don’t have to think twice about it.

The main things to consider is the size of the backpack, the amount of stuff that you can keep on it, it’s weight and how well built the backpack is. Other features such as locks and security options and weatherproofing are some extra features that you can look into.

This article is all about hiking backpacks. Here, we’ll show you an in-depth analysis of hiking backpacks and the ways to choose a perfect one for you.

What Is A Hiking Backpack?

Hiking trips can last for a whole day. So, you need to carry important items such as food, water, equipment, clothing and so on. To carry all these items, you need a backpack. Therefore, in layman’s term, a hiking backpack is a backpack that can be used to carry items while you’re hiking. There are certain features that are needed for a backpack to classify as a hiking backpack. The backpacks have a range of fits, design, built and pricing. There are also many types of hiking backpacks and each of them has its own purpose.

How To Choose A Hiking Backpack

How To Choose A Hiking Backpack?

Let us now come back to the question in hand. How to choose a hiking backpack? Well, the simple way is to weigh in the features. Do a cost-benefit analysis and buy the one that fits your budget. But let’s not get that technical so, we’re going to see some basic things to look after before choosing a hiking backpack.

Find your Fit and Need

The first thing you need to do is try out a bunch of backpacks and see which one is the perfect fit for you. You won’t want to choose an overnight pack for a 3-hour hike.

Capacity

Get the one with the capacity that really complements your items that you’d take on a hike. The capacity of backpacks is denoted in liters. A normal backpack has a 40-liter capacity. Go for it!

Access

Access is important. Backpacks having good access facilities like reachable compartments, water bladders and belt pockets are always great. They’ll considerably increase your hiking speed.

Build Quality, Features, and Price

The final thing that you’d want to do is judge the build quality of the backpack. See what kind of features and capacity it has and then based on your budget, make a decision. Also, keep in mind that not all backpacks that seem good are good. You should check for the padding material, the frame sheet material as well as the pocket materials. Getting a backpack with a warranty is another thing you can do.

Different Types of Hiking Backpack

As far as the types are concerned, hiking backpacks are differentiated in accordance with the size, material, and design.

Size

There are quite a few size options. A small sized backpack can be used to carry hydration bladders, a few clothes, and a few basic gears. These backpacks are light and easier to carry. A slightly large, let’s say medium sized backpacks are used to carry things that you might need in a single day. They’re also known as day packs. The next one is a large sized backpack, they’re referred to as Overnight packs and they allow you to carry things such as water, food, clothing gear, sleeping gear, equipment etc. They’re meant for a long hiking trip. There are also specialized backpacks for skiing or rock climbing.

Material And Design

The material used in a backpack can vary significantly. First of all, small packs usually have a frameless design with soft foams. Since they’re meant for a relatively short distance, they also don’t have much capacity. A heavier pack will have plastic sewn frame sheet for more rigidity and they can take heavier loads as well. As far as the overnight backpack goes, they’re very strong and very heavy. Built with aluminum, these backpacks can comfortably withstand a load of over 20 pounds.

Frame

In addition to the above categories, the frame also determines what kind of backpack a certain one is. There are three kinds of backpacks with frame design in mind:

  • Frameless Backpacks: These backpacks have a flexible construction. They’re very light. The build is of 40-liter capacity which weighs less than 0.6 kgs. The one downside is that these backpacks don’t have a build to withstand heavy loads. This is, however, the plus point too. Because of the fact that it doesn’t have solid construction, they’re very suitable for hiking on a steep hill or ascents that require more strength. Low weight can definitely help here.

They’re heavy, bulky and aren’t something that you would want to take on a really long hiking trip. The load support is excellent. The backpack can take a 50 liter+ load but can weigh around 2 kgs. The main advantage of an external frame backpack is that they can fit anyone, the fit is customizable. The frames can also be replaced or removed with lighter ones but that will decrease the load bearing capability too. It’s really about finding the right balance here.

Features of Hiking Backpack

Now, for the features, hiking backpacks come with a ton of it. The size and design variation, that we discussed earlier are actually the primary features. The list doesn’t end there too. There are many extra features to discuss. So, let’s just get into it.

Padding

Hiking backpack

Hiking backpacks come with comfort in mind. You wouldn’t want to take a backpack that hurts your shoulders. Also, a major load will also sit on your hip for internal and external frame backpacks. Some backpacks also come with padded shoulder straps for more comfort.

Air Flow

Sweat can indeed be a problem. Avoiding a sweaty back wearing an internal framed hiking backpack is just a real problem. Although the sweaty back isn’t something that can be avoided fully it can be reduced with a proper ventilation system. Most backpacks have this air flow mechanism integrated into the back. Breathable Mesh are also common and they’re very helpful.

Pockets

Who doesn’t need pockets? We all do. More pockets you have, more things you can keep and more organization is possible. This may also be quite of a preference. Most people would want more pockets while for some, that might be more hassle. There are many kinds of pockets though, they ‘re:

  • Pockets in the hip belt. These are extremely important. They’re close to access and they have quite a good place to keep items such as GPS and Cell Phones.
  • Side Pockets are common. Most backpacks have it. They’re there for you to keep a bottle of water or anything else that you might need.
  • Front Pockets are the pockets with a zipper or a buckle closure. You can keep a map or a dry jacket on a front pocket. There are even pockets inside pockets and they’re just a sweet deal. Some pockets are also waterproof pockets that help you even more.
  • The final kind of pocket is the lid pocket that is small & best for storing items like gloves and flashlights.

Hydration

Some backpacks also come with a hydration pack that has a hose connected to a water bladder. It’s a convenient way to store water and the water can be accessed faster too.

These are some features that are essential. Some other features that you can look into are a Sleeping bag compartment, rain covers, straps, hooks and loops, removable daypacks etc These features aren’t that important but it is a huge bonus if you find a backpack with them.

Conclusion

How to Pack a Backpack With Clothes?

Packing a backpack with clothes is actually an art form. And today, we’re going to go over some methods.

Step 1: Folding Clothes

Packing clothes

  • The first thing is to fold shirts as they’re the primary outfit. The best technique is the army roll. Just lay the shirt on a table and turn the bottom 6 inches. Ensure that this section is flat. Now you should take the left side of the shirt and fold it toward the center. Now fold the sleeve back. After the shirt is folded, start rolling it. For rolling the shirt, take the collar and roll it up. This keeps the clothes compact but it can wrinkle the cloth more than traditional folding.
  • The next thing is the socks. You should always roll the socks in small bundles. Fold the top end of the sock back on itself for 2 inches. Then from the toes, roll them.
  • The underwear is the next item on the list. The underwears should be rolled from the inverted waistband and the edges should be folded towards the middle. Roll the underwear’s bottom up to the top of the waistband into a compact bundle.
  • Store the shirt, and socks in one bundle. For this, lay out your shirt, put the socks and the underwear over it and then gradually fold the shirt. This will save a whole lot of space.
  • If you’re a girl, the skirt should be folded in a way to avoid wrinkles. Rolling a skirt can be a bit tricky, so you should fold it in half in a way that it’s safe from wrinkles.
  • Just like skirts, pants and shorts should also not be rolled. They should instead be folded. Hold them by their waistband and fold them in the back pocket to back pocket way. There’s nothing fancy on the fold. Just fold them in the usual way.
  • If you’re a lazy guy who doesn’t really want to fold clothes manually then use a cloth folder. A cloth folder is generally a semi-automatic folder which required minimum labor It will significantly decrease your packing time. For instance, you can just lay a shirt down on the folding board and fold every sector of the shirt separately for a whole fold.

Step 2: Storing Clothes

sorting clothes

  • Perform a weight sort of all your items. Do this sorting from lightest to heaviest. Lay them out from left to right. Do remember to pack everything you need though. It will be really annoying if you miss an item.
  • The soles of your shoes is a really good place to store small items. It is also a place where there is an extra layer of protection for items. You can easily store rolled socks and underwear. Doing this will make sure you have more space on your backpack for other items.
  • The storage strategy is light item first while the heavy item goes last. So, you should put all the lighter items like sleeping bags and spare shoes that you won’t have to access frequently at first, on the bottom of the backpack.
  • The backpack’s center is where you want to keep all the camping equipment so they’re easier to retrieve. Stuff like camping gears and small electronics can go here. These times will be cushioned perfectly with the lighter items down and the clothes up.
  • Finally, all the items that have considerable weight go at the top of the bag. Since the top of the backpack is the easiest to access, you need to put every day to day items on the top like jackers, umbrellas etc.

Step 3: Organization

  • The final step is to organize the backpack. For this, get the correct backpack first. There are different backpacks that have various functions which depend on your needs. Get a waterproof backpack on a hiking trip. Traveling for a long time will require you to get a backpack that has many spaces both outside and inside. It also should have a good deal of padding to safeguard it from protection. For a sleepover, a normal backpack with the packing tips that we gave is more than enough.
  • For camping, get a compression dry bag that will protect the backpack from all sorts of weather conditions.
  • Use packing cubes for clothes. Packing cubes can help you pack items separately and then put it in the backpack. It helps with easy retrieval.
  • For liquids and other items like toilet paper and hand sanitizers, store them on outer pockets. You don’t want to ruin your clothes with water now, would you?

How To Fit Everything Into Your Backpack?

The trick to fitting everything into your backpack is to get a backpack that supports all your items. Often times people have a lot of items that they want to carry but the backpack isn’t large enough. No matter how many tricks you apply, it’s not going to get you anywhere unless you have a reasonably sized backpack for your items.

Having said that, there are certain headstarts that we can definitely give you to help you tackle this problem.

  • It’s not just possible. Make sure to know this, my friend. “Everything” is a very vague term and it is literally impossible to store everything. So, the first heads up is to get a backpack that fits you. Sizes are measured in the liters a pack can hold, getting a high storage backpack is always a win situation.
  • Suitcase type backpacks generally store more than the zipper type backpacks. But Zipper type is more favored when you’re a climber.
  • Make use of all the spaces. As obvious as it may sound, you need to take advantage of every nook and corner of your backpack.
  • The final thing to take care of is to use the outer area properly. Many backpacks have outer pockets for storing water. Also, you can buy extensions that increase the space of your backpack thus allowing you to store many things. Do remember to get a backpack that is lightweight though. You shouldn’t sacrifice comfort for space.

Caution While Packing Your Backpack

Well, there are quite a few cautions that you should take while packing your backpack. These are some trivial matters but they’re still crucial.

  • Remember to pack everything you need. Often times, people just forget at least one item from their lists. Don’t be like that. Try to remember everything.
  • Don’t mix clothes with water. Never store water bottle on the space where your clothes are. Store them separately.
  • Make sure all the zippers are locked properly, you don’t want to lose items from your backpack.
  • If your backpack isn’t weatherproof, carry a raincoat perhaps. This will be handy in case of emergencies.
  • Use a case to store electronics. You don’t want your precious smartphone to be all broken. In addition, don’t keep your electronics with water.
  • Backpacks are specific. Don’t use a school going backpack on a camping trip. That just doesn’t work. Also, get a backpack with good quality. There are some reasonably priced options available for purchase.

There are also many ways to fold and roll clothes, these techniques really help you save some space. Finally, use the correct backpack type. Don’t go for the one which looks nice but for the one that suits your needs. As far as the “Don’t Do’s” are concerned, never mix water with clothes and electronics. Most importantly, don’t forget your items, double check everything. Have a solid packing plan and enjoy your trip with a well-organized backpack.

Why Do You Need Rangefinder In Golf & Hunting?

In golf, a rangefinder is actually a replacement for a yardage book. They offer a very clear picture of slopes, distances, and various other things. This is mainly because of a range finder’s improved features.

Since golf is played in a slow way, it becomes difficult to judge the distance of a shot. This is where a rangefinder comes in. The rangefinder can also help you increase your speed as golf can be a bit slow. It is said that you can save almost 30 minutes with a good rangefinder. It may also depend on the accuracy of a rangefinder. Most of them do work though.

In hunting, a rangefinder is important because it helps you find your prey in a short amount of time. Also, rangefinder can also be helpful if you want to find directions and shoot your target with a gun. It just makes the whole hunting process easier.

Hunting Rangefinder vs Golf Rangefinder

There are some significant differences between a hunting rangefinder and a golf rangefinder.

Target and Distant Modes

The targeting and distant modes are pretty different in both cases. Golfers generally need a first target mode that helps them detect objects which are nearby like flag or pin. Hunting rangefinders, on the other hand, are great at a close object detection. When it comes to hunting, the distant target mode is important. Modern rangefinders also come with toggles with both the first target and distant target modes under their belt.

Accuracy

When it comes to accurate detection, golfing rangefinders detect the object quickly. As far as precision goes, hunting rangefinders are more accurate. This, however, serves the purpose.

Strength of Magnification

As far as the total strength of magnification is concerned, hunting rangefinders have more of it. Golfers need the distance of the next hole that they’re aiming. For bowhunters, 400 yards rangefinders are kind of okay. Switch to rifle hunting and you might want to get a rifle that scopes into 1000-1500 yard ranges.

These are some basic differences between golf and hunting rangefinders. You can choose the one suitable for you. Generally, people prefer a high functioning rangefinder to fulfill both the functions.

Similarities Between Hunting Rangefinder & Golf Rangefinder

There are a lot of similarities between a hunting rangefinder and a golf rangefinder as well. These similarities can broadly be in different sectors. They’re explained below:

Type

USGA Compliant, compact, laser range finder,

Both Hunting and Golf Rangefinder are available at a wide range of types. There are plenty of companies that can make good rangefinders with an impeccable build and an affordable price.

Features

Both Hunting and golf rangefinders come with complementing features. These features include things such as Quality, Price, Magnification, Range etc.

Working

Both Hunting and Golf rangefinder are used for similar purpose i.e, to find a range. Slight differences may be there but the core working of both the devices are the same.

Will Hunting Rangefinder Work For Golf?

The answer to this question can be really vague. In hindsight, it should work. There are can be slight drawbacks, however.

  1. Golf rangefinders have a pin seeker feature. It depends on the manufacturer though. This helps you to lock in on the target. For golf, it is a very good feature overall. When you try to golf using a hunting rangefinder that doesn’t let you switch modes, it can be quite difficult.
  2. Similarly, If you are trying to hunt using a golf rangefinder, it can be difficult to zone in on your target because of all the obstacles. Hunting rangefinders use a different technology to lock in on the target. This is because of the fact that you don’t want to run into an obstacle while hunting.

So, Can you use a hunting rangefinder for golf? Well, Yes. This will come with a fair share of drawbacks, however. Since a hunting rangefinder is made specifically for hunting and a golf rangefinder is build with golfing in mind. There are also some rangefinders that allow you to switch modes so, you can easily use it for multiple purposes.

Buying Guide for Multipurpose Rangefinders

There are some certain things that you might want to consider while buying a multipurpose rangefinder. They’re discussed below:

Target methods: Get the one with both target and distant modes. Having a toggle that lets you switch between hunting and golfing is a huge plus point. Only then, can you use a golfing rangefinder for hunting and vice-versa.

Build: Make sure the rangefinder you’re buying comes with a sturdy build and also try to find the one with a warranty.

Size and Weight: There are many rangefinders that come at different sizes and different weights. Get the one with the size and weight factor that complements your build.

Price: The final thing to consider is the price of the rangefinder. Don’t spend much. You can get a good quality multipurpose rangefinder for a relatively cheap price.

Conclusion

A rangefinder is an excellent tool to estimate distance. Whether you’re trying to put a ball in a hole or looking for a sweet buck that you can kill, using a rangefinder will have a significant impact on your experience. Although you can easily use a hunting rangefinder for golfing, there can be a huge difference if you just get a golfing rangefinder. If it is absolutely necessary to use a hunting rangefinder, then yes, it’s very much doable. We do recommend a multipurpose rangefinder with a toggle. This will help you out in the long run and let you do both things at once with a minimum price.

Why Do You Need Shooting Ear Protection?

Decibel is the unit used to measure the sound’s intensity. Anything above 85 decibels is considered a bit dangerous to the ears. This, however, depends on the time of exposure. Going to a concert once in a while won’t in no way render your hearing capability obsolete. But constant exposure to high-intensity sounds can be quite harmful. The noise produced by guns can vary quite a bit though. For instance, a rifle with 22 caliber bullets will make a noise level of intensity of 145 decibels. Switch to a 44 caliber gun, the intensity raises to 170 decibels. This is a general range of the noise produced by most of the guns. As you can see, the noise level far exceeds the warning level of 85 decibels. Hence, making a need for ear protection absolutely crucial for a gunslinger.

No Ear Protection?

There are a lot of medical problems that can surface from long exposure to sounds that are not considered healthy for your ears. As far as gun sounds are concerned, the importance of ear protection is obvious. Temporary or even permanent damage can be caused to your ears if you do not take proper precaution when you’re shooting.

Some of the major problems that people face after long exposure to firearm sound without any ear protection:

Pain in Ear

The most obvious symptom of long exposure to shooting without ear protection is the constant pain that you may suffer in your ears. Let us now jump into the buying guide and see what you should look for when buying shooting ear protection.

What To Look For When Buying Shooting Ear Protection?

There are quite a few things that you must take into consideration before buying shooting ear protection. As we know that there are many types of shooting ear protection, here we’re going to let you know the best of the bunch and what are some of the things to consider.

Type

We know there are many types of protection. Ear Muffs, Ear Plugs, Bands, Headsets etc. We cannot pinpoint what is better but we can put some of them into battle and see which reigns over which type.

  • Earplugs Vs Earmuffs: Well, let us see what kind holds up. Earplugs are simple and disposable but they don’t block enough noise. Earmuffs, on the other hand, aren’t so simple, they’re not disposable, they’re built to last and last but not least, they’re comfortable. There are digital earplugs though that sometimes perform even better than an earmuff. So, there’s that. You cannot really pick a favorite by being neutral. It depends on an individual’s preference.
  • Electronic Earmuffs vs Non-Electronic Earmuffs: Since we live in the age of technology, anything non-electronic might automatically seem like a downvote. But that is not always the case. While it is definitely true that digital earmuffs come with audio input-output and all the extra features that we’re so accustomed to but it is also true that most of these features aren’t even necessary. The Non-Electronic earmuffs rely on physical design to block the sounds rather than technology and it works most of the time.

Let’s take an example; A headphone costs a lot more than a disposable earplug but, will the earplug be sufficient? Say, you prefer a headphone, now what? There are plenty of headphones to choose from, which one should you buy? Definitely the one with a solid build and great performance. But wait, what if it costs a fortune? Well, now you need to weigh in the pros and cons of the headphones and then make an informed decision based on the price to build/performance ratio.

Tips For Buying The Perfect Shooting Ear Protection

There are some tips that we can provide for you to choose perfect ear protection.

  • Look at the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR). A noise reduction rating on an ear protection device shows you the number of decibels ear protection can reduce. An NRR of 20 will reduce the intensity of a gun sound by 20 decibels. Low caliber guns are okay with a 20 NRR but a high caliber gun might need somewhere between 28 to 33 NRR.
  • See if you’re getting extra items with your purchase, look out for warranties and guarantees.

Final Words

Finally, shooting ear protection can serve you good in your shooting endeavors. It can help you withheld the medical damage that you’d otherwise get from prolonged exposure to gun sounds. Here, we went over some of the things you should consider before buying shooting protection.
